Sonya Ross is a highly qualified and experienced voice coach who has dedicated her career to studying and teaching all things voice and accent.
After completing her undergraduate degree in Edinburgh, she spent four years teaching Business English in France, where she discovered and developed a passion for teaching pronunciation.
In 2005, she embarked on the renowned MA in Voice Studies at the Central School of Speech and Drama, at the time the only course of its kind in the UK. It was a personally and professionally transformative year with in-depth study of vocal anatomy and physiology, pedagogy, phonetics, and personal vocal practice.
After gaining her MA, Sonya spent some years teaching in drama schools and voice coaching organisations. She now works as an independent coach in London, and over the years has helped hundreds of clients gain more choice and control over all aspects of their spoken voice.
Her clients are financial services, insurance, sales and PR executives, lawyers, medical professionals, musicians and actors. She has been through the process herself while learning French over the years so she knows very well how it feels to be in the learner’s shoes.
Her coaching has been described by her clients as thorough, patient, enjoyable and most importantly, effective. A self-confessed ‘sound geek’, her enthusiasm for her subject is infectious!
Sonya lives in north London and in her spare time she is a keen reader, writer, walker and traveller. She loves animals, and is often to be found analysing song lyrics.
